Super Saturday Awaits

A jam-packed day of tennis is ahead of us at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship with 17 matches on the schedule Saturday.

All eight singles second round matches will be on the schedule, two of which are in
progress. Gijs Brouwer, who won the first set, will be serving to force a second tie-break against
John Isner while Denis Kudla and JJ Wolf will resume at 4-all in the opening set.

Saturday is slated to see the 2023 debut of the top seeds who enjoyed first round byes, with No. 1 Frances Tiafoe and No. 2 Tommy Paul.

Tiafoe, a 2022 US Open semifinalist, will face two-time US Clay champion Steve Johnson in one of two all-American matches on the schedule, Wolf and Kudla in the other.

Paul, a semifinalist at 2023 Australian Open, is set to face former USC standout Yannick Hanfmann under the lights followed by former UCLA Bruin Marcos Giron taking on Czech qualifier Tomas Machac.

Cristian Garin, the 2019 champion at River Oaks who reached last year’s semifinal, will meet lucky loser Zizou Bergs, the replacement for Brandon Nakashima who withdrew with a left knee injury.

The winners of those second round matches will double up to come back and play their
quarterfinal matches later Saturday.

The four doubles quarterfinal matches include 2023 Australian Open champions Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler among the other teams in action.

Main draw action is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Matches will be available to watch on the ESPN App.
